M3gan moves up to January 6th.

The overprotective android horror flick M3gan (stands for Model 3 Generative Android) has a new release date. Charles Pulliam-Moore described its trailer as “serving Small Wonder with a side of murder” — you can watch it right here and judge for yourself.

It was originally scheduled for release on January 13th, but now Deadline reports it’s moved up a week.

While BTS joins the military, Boston Dynamics bots join BTS.

The company’s latest dance video shows Spot and Atlas dancing to a 2021 BTS single. It’s interesting to see Boston Dynamic’s robots given the livery of parent company Hyundai, and with the BTS lads getting conscripted, perhaps the robots will take their place? At least it’d be an ethical use-case for AI in war.

The infinite robot story that had to end.

Vaskange is an artist that uses the Endless Paper app to create lovely little worlds of “infinite” depth. Here’s just one example.

Ring ring. Hello, who’s there? Feelings.

Who brought a plant to a knife fight?

A guy called David Bowen apparently. His bizarre installation grants a philodendron the ability to control a robotic arm, using an open source microcontroller that reads resistance signals across the plant’s leaves. These signals are then mapped in real-time to the movements of the industrial robot’s joints, allowing it to swing around a machete. A mean, green, slicing machine if you will.

Elon has a real robot this time.

Sure, it walked across that stage like I do when I fell asleep at an odd angle, and my back is feeling tight, but it walked!

It’s AI day.

Elon Musk has robots, cars that might not be capable of driving by themselves but can assist a human driver, and much much more to show us. Watch it all right here.

Tesla teases robotic hand ahead of AI Day.

From our own James Vincent on Wednesday reporting on what experts will be looking for during the Tesla Bot reveal later today:

Anything where the hand just moves without contacting anything else is trivially simple and not impressive, no matter how ‘human-like’ it looks. If it simply waves hello, that’s a groan fail.

“These robots can dance... and maybe murder you.”

The Vergecast crew talks over their robot expectations for Elon Musk and Tesla’s AI day event on Friday.

What to expect from Tesla’s AI Day event

On September 30th, Elon Musk will kick off Tesla’s AI Day to outline the company’s path to fully autonomous vehicles. But this year, Tesla’s cars are expected to take a backseat to a robot named Optimus.

Tesla is buzzing with robot fever.

Elon Musk’s company is getting ready to debut its supposedly not-fake humanoid robot, Optimus, during its “AI Day” event September 30th. What evidence do we have that it won’t just be another a person in a spandex robot costume doing an extremely awkward dance? There have been meetings! And job postings! And Elon tweeted that there may be a working prototype! Look, this will either be a major breakthrough in the field of robotics or a spectacular flop. But considering Musk has already solved the problem of self-driving cars, I’m inclined to— what’s that? [touches earpiece] I’m being told he hasn’t solved the problem of self-driving cars? And that humanoid robots could prove even more difficult? Oh well, then bring on the spandex dancers I guess.

Neither snow nor rain nor active crime scene will stay these robot couriers...

Last-mile delivery robots are still trying to prove their worth, but here’s one apparent advantage: they can enter crime scenes. It’s a bit odd that the police didn’t stop the bot, especially as we don’t know whether a computer or human was driving.

It seems like Amazon’s planning on expanding its robot army even further.

A few months after announcing its next-gen robots, the company has purchased one of the companies that made some of its pallet-stacking machines.
