When Apple TV was updated last week to version 4.4, it brought a lot of new features, but some users were unexpectedly being asked to connect to iTunes in order to update. Apple's original 4.4.1 patch to solve that problem exacerbated things by actually bricking devices, so it was quickly pulled — but it's now been re-released and seems to be working fine. You may now safely update your Apple TV.
