DigiTimes is reporting that Acer says it will launch its CloudMobile smartphone in the third quarter of this year, following the AcerCloud service’s initial rollout in China and North America. The Q3 release is said to be worldwide, raising the prospect of the phone being available without Acer’s cloud functionality in certain markets. It’ll apparently be running Android 4.1, making it possibly the first announced device to do so at launch, though that’s all we have to go on for now.

The only other new details are that the phone will use a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and run on HSPA+ 3G networks, so it doesn’t sound as though Acer is making any unexpected moves into the premium segment of the market. We’ll have to wait until this month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to see for ourselves what an iF award-winning design from a traditionally low-cost manufacturer looks and feels like.
