RIM announced BlackBerry Mobile Fusion last November, a new enterprise service that will allow companies to manage multiple types of devices from a single, web-based interface, and the company says the service will launch today. The service can manage smartphones running BlackBerry 7 or earlier, PlayBook tablets, and tablets and smartphones running Android and iOS. RIM says that Mobile Fusion will allow IT managers to activate and configure devices and profiles for various phones, enable access to enterprise services, deploy apps, and detect jailbreaks and roots. RIM hasn't traditionally provided much support for competing devices over the years, but Mobile Fusion is probably a necessary concession considering the expanding use of personal devices in the workplace and even changing preferences in the IT world.
