The New York Times has just announced its unprecedented collaboration with Flipboard to deliver “full access to its content” for its digital subscribers — the first time the newspaper has offered full access to its content outside of its own catalog of digital offerings. It’s certainly a big win for Flipboard, the popular social news reading app for iOS and Android, and could boost the Times’ readership — while the bulk of content will still sit behind a paywall, non-subscribers will be able to read a sample of free articles, including those in the “Top News” section. The Times reports that the companies will split revenue as part of the deal, and that the paper will sell full-screen ads to appear between its Flipboard pages.
