Bang & Olufsen demonstrated its dedication to mobile devices earlier this year with the introduction of the BeoPlay A3 iPad dock, and now it’s taking things a step further with the Playmaker, a wireless audio receiver that will allow users to play music using their choice of AirPlay or DLNA. The device receives audio using either protocol via Wi-Fi or ethernet, and also has a line-in jack for feeding music into it the old-fashioned way.

As for actually listening to that audio, the Playmaker is designed to be used specifically with Bang & Olufsen’s own speaker systems, with users able to set up different Playmakers in different rooms for a Sonos-like experience. Setting the Playmaker up on your network is taken care of with the free iOS app, or via web browser. As with most things Bang & Olufsen, it features a unique design, but that comes at a price: $425. Still, for those in the company’s ecosystem, it may be a reasonable fee for opening up one’s wireless audio options. The Playmaker will be available in the US, Canada, and Mexico later this month.
