Here’s the Opel Ampera-e, GM’s Chevy Bolt for Europe

Opel

Announced at Bochum, Germany’s CAR Symposium today, the Opel Ampera-e might look a bit familiar. That’s because it’s a rebadged version of the Chevy Bolt, first unveiled at CES last month, an electric car with 200 miles of range that is expected to run $30,000 when it goes on sale later this year. Opel is GM’s Germany-based brand that may not be familiar to American readers, because it doesn’t sell cars there.

Little is being said about the Ampera-e so far, apart from the fact that it will “have a longer range on a full charge than most electric cars” and be “affordably priced.” (Of course, given its Bolt roots, we could’ve guessed that.) It’ll also be a little delayed from the initial launch of the Bolt: Opel says that the car will launch in 2017, though volume shipments of the Bolt may not be until 2017, either.

The coolest feature of the Opel-specific version might be the logo, which is awesome:

Honestly, if this wasn’t going to be a car, it should be a metal band. (The Ampera, sans “e,” is the name of Opel’s version of the Volt.)
