Drivers cannot choose their own pronouns yet, a Lyft spokesman said. The company will roll out the feature to drivers in the future, the spokesman said, without specifying when.
Previously Lyft only offered two choices of pronouns for riders, male and female. With the update, riders can select from a list of pronouns that include:
- They/Them/Theirs
- She/Her/Hers
- He/Him/His
- My pronoun isn’t listed
- Prefer not to say
Drivers will be able to see the pronoun that the passenger has selected.
Lyft is also said it would also offer “free resources” through the National Center for Transgender Equality to advise trans drivers on the name change process. And it would provide $200 for name change fees, executed in partnership with NCTE, for each driver.
Correction: The original version of this story said that drivers would be able to select their pronouns, too. Drivers cannot select their own pronouns yet.
