Max and Discovery Plus lost around 700,000 subscribers this quarter.
During an earnings call on Wednesday, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav blamed the decrease on having the “lightest original content” slate in years. That was due to the Hollywood strikes strike and a decrease in overlapping Discovery Plus subscribers, Zaslav said.
It sounds like Warner Bros. Discovery plans to bulk up on original content in the future, as Zaslav said he wants to “capitalize” on the company’s “underused” franchises, like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones,
