American Airlines just got a $4.1 million fine for keeping passengers on planes for too long.
The US Department of Transportation says American Airlines left 43 flights on the tarmac for “long periods of time” without letting passengers deplane.
This marks the largest fine that the DOT has levied against an airline for violating its tarmac delay rule, which prohibits airlines from keeping passengers on the tarmac for more than three hours.
