New York State proposes AI guidance to head off discrimination in insurance.
The New York Department of Financial Services’ (DFS) proposal would ask insurers to examine their AI systems to ensure they won’t learn to mimic discrimination against vulnerable communities that exists in the industry. The DFS is accepting comments on the guidance until March 17th, 2024.
The DFS says the announcement builds on the AI policy put forward by state Governor Hochul last week.
