Boeing may have made the installation mistake behind the 737 Max 9 blowout.
A source familiar with the situation tells The Seattle Times the doorplug that blew out of the Alaska Airlines flight was “removed for repair then reinstalled improperly by Boeing mechanics” on the final assembly line.
That would put the brunt of the blame on Boeing, instead of Spirit AeroSystems, the company that initially installed the panel, The Seattle Times reports. The FAA’s investigation is still ongoing.
