Google DeepMind made an AI tool for analyzing soccer tactics.
In a research paper published on Tuesday, Google DeepMind revealed that it has teamed up with Liverpool FC to develop TacticAI, an AI system that soccer coaches can use to get insights on corner kicks and player setups.
TacticAI uses generative and predictive AI to help coaches figure out which player is most likely to receive the ball during corner kicks, whether a shot will be taken, and how to adjust player setup. The paper says human experts found that TacticAI’s suggestions are indistinguishable from real corners and were picked 90 percent of the time “over tactical setups seen in practice.”
