Homeland Security Investigations is rebranding.
Agents have long sought to distance HSI from its parent agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, claiming ICE’s politicized status hinders HSI’s ability to investigate crimes like drug smuggling and human trafficking.
HSI can’t break away from ICE without an act of Congress, but it will now have its own website and separate, non-ICE email addresses. But “they’ll still be ICE,” the agency’s acting director said.
