Netflix is back with its now-annual Geeked Week, a weeklong event meant to hype up its nerdier shows, movies, and games. That means you can expect a steady drip of trailers and news about some of the streaming service’s biggest properties. Last year, for instance, we got the likes of Avatar: the Last Airbender, Hades, and 3 Body Problem.
This year’s edition has some heavy hitters as well. A teaser video suggests we’ll be learning more about the second seasons of Arcane (which is due out in November), Squid Game (which starts streaming in December), and Avatar (which was renewed back in March). We’ll likely also hear about the service’s steadily growing gaming offerings, highlighted by the upcoming launch of Monument Valley 3. The teaser also hints that we’ll finally be getting some Stranger Things news — it’s been two whole years since the last season.
The week will include daily announcements online, culminating with a live event on September 19th at 8PM ET. But you can keep up with all of the important news, announcements, and trailers right here.
- The game never ends.
If Seong Gi-hun / Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) had just walked away with his winnings, his life might be peaceful, but in this teaser from Squid Game’s upcoming second season, there’s an entire army of Masked Men that seem hellbent on killing him.
- Let the Chopper sing, Netflix.
While Netflix has yet to officially announce who will be voicing / portraying Tony Tony Chopper in the second season of its live-action One Piece adaptation, the (CGI) anthropomorphic reindeer makes a brief appearance in this new behind-the-scenes video.
- Monument Valley gets animated.
We already knew the third entry in the series would be a Netflix exclusive, but this new clip also teases an animated short set in the Monument Valley universe.
Netflix adds Civilization VI and Street Fighter IV to its games lineup
Netflix’s newest games are actually a bit old. During its Geeked Week 2024 presentation, the streaming service revealed it’s adding Civilization VI and Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition as well as a host of other titles to its ever-increasing and legitimately impressive gaming lineup.
For Civ 6, players will have access to all the game’s expansion packs that were a part of the Platinum Edition version of the game. Meanwhile, Netflix will host the Champion Edition of Street Fighter IV featuring all 32 fighters released over the game’s lifetime. Also, iOS and Android users will be able to compete against each other online exclusively via Netflix. Neither game has a launch date just yet, with Netflix saying both are coming soon.

Despite reports that Netflix’s animated Magic: The Gathering series might have been on the chopping block, the streamer announced during this year’s Geeked Week that the project is still in production with showrunner Terry Matalas at the helm.
- What if Squid Game was goofy fun?
That seems to be the premise behind the mobile game spinoff Squid Game: Unleashed, which is “a 32-player party royale showdown featuring challenges fans will recognize from the hit series.” It’ll be available for subscribers later this year.
- More Cyberpunk is coming to Netflix.
We have no idea what it is or what it will look like, but the streamer has confirmed that it’s working with CD Projekt Red on some kind of follow up to the excellent anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. “More info coming soon,” Netflix says.
Arcane’s final season starts streaming on November 9th
The second and final season of Netflix’s Arcane finally has a concrete release date, but it looks like the episodes won’t all be dropping at once.
This evening, during the final night of this year’s Geeked Week showcase, Netflix and Riot announced that Arcane’s final season will be a three-part event. Act One is set to premiere on November 9th, Act Two debuts on November 16th, and Act Three drops on November 23rd. Along with the the new dates, Netflix also released yet another teaser trailer showcasing how sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell) will be drawn back into battle with one another as the war for control of Piltover reaches its climax.

It’s a video game! Netflix is expanding Zack Snyder’s sci-fi opus with a mobile title called Blood Line. It’s described as an “online co-operative action game takes on the role of a rebel, picking between a variety of classes to join a covert rebellion that’s fighting to take back their planet from the tyrannical Motherworld.” It’s launching in 2025.
Netflix’s Devil May Cry series starts streaming in April
It doesn’t look like Dante has lost a step for his upcoming animated series. Netflix just released a new trailer for its Devil May Cry adaptation, and it includes the kind of absurd, over-the-top demon-hunting action that has made Capcom’s games so beloved. That means big swords, motorcycle chases, dual-wielding pistols, and... guns hidden in pizza boxes. Even better: we now know when the series will start streaming. The show will hit Netflix in April 2025.
The series was first announced last year, and is helmed by Adi Shankar, who previously worked on Netflix adaptations like Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk. The game series, meanwhile, has been largely quiet since 2019’s excellent return in the form of Devil May Cry 5. (Read our interview with director Hideaki Itsuno right here for more on the game.)

It’s not the trailer fans were probably hoping for, but Netflix did at least release (another) behind the scenes clip for the upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The long wait continues.
Netflix teases its animated Splinter Cell series
It’s been quite some time since we heard anything about Netflix’s animated adaptation of Splinter Cell — but the streamer has finally provided some details on the show. The reveal comes in the form of a very brief teaser trailer, which shows a little bit of the show, but mostly showcases Liev Schreiber’s gravelly take on lead character Sam Fisher. We also have a proper name now: it’s called Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
The show is being written by Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise, and the project is part of an ongoing collaboration between Netflix and Splinter Cell developer Ubisoft. The two previously released the animated series Captain Laserhawk, and are working on a live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed (which similarly hasn’t received much news since it was announced). Ubisoft also released a mobile version of Rainbow Six for Netflix subscribers. It’s all part of a big push into gaming adaptations from Netflix, which has included the likes of Castlevania, Dota 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider, and Devil May Cry.

Image: NetflixIt’s not clear how much of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s story Netflix will fit into the next season of its live-action adaptation, but we now know who will be portraying the series’ take on Toph.
During Netflix’s ongoing Geeked Week event, the streamer announced that Miya Cech (Beef, American Girl: Corinne Tan) has been cast as Toph Beifong, the blind earthbending prodigy whose unique skills end up making her a formidable part of Team Avatar.

Netflix’s Geeked Week has been pretty quiet so far, but that’s likely to change during a live event tonight. The main show starts at 8PM ET (there’s a pre-show happening at 7:30PM ET), and you can follow along with the biggest announcements right here. Expect the big names like Squid Game and Arcane to make appearances.
- Monument Valley is out now on Netflix.
As promised, the first entry in the gorgeous puzzle game series is available for subscribers today on both iOS and Android. And there’s more coming: Monument Valley 2 hits the service on October 29th, while the recently announced third game will be a Netflix exclusive when it launches on December 10th.
Black Mirror season 7 cast includes Peter Capaldi, Paul Giamatti, and Issa Rae

Issa Rae. Photo by Rodin Eckenroth / WireImageWe still don’t know much about the seventh season of Black Mirror, but at least the show’s return will have a stacked cast. Netflix announced a big list of actors who will appear in the next installment of the anthology when it premieres in 2025, and it includes Doctor Who alum Peter Capaldi, Barbie star Issa Rae, Sunny’s Rashida Jones, and the always delightful Paul Giamatti.

Image: NetflixWe’re still waiting on the biggest news in the Witcher universe — just what Liam Hemsworth will sound like as Geralt — but in the meantime, Netflix has announced when fans can expect the next animated spinoff. The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will start streaming on February 11th, 2025. And Doug Cockle, the iconic voice of Geralt in the games, will be reprising his role.
Here’s the premise of the film:

We’re still a little ways out from the season 2 premiere of Castlevania: Nocturne, but after months of waiting, Netflix has shared a general window for the show’s return.
Ahead of Geeked Week 2024, Netflix has dropped a new Castlevania: Nocturne trailer teasing how Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel), Annette (Thuso Mbedu), Maria (Pixie Davies), and Alucard (James Callis) will continue their war against vampire queen Erzsebet Báthory (Franka Potente). The teaser’s shots of Nocturne’s heroes make it seem like season 2 will see them being haunted by memories of all they’ve lost. But the brief flashes of a cross engulfed in pink flames also feels like it could be a nod to the show bringing back certain characters like Drolta Tzuentes (Elarica Johnson).

The Remarkable Life of Ibelin was one of my favorite movies at Sundance this year. It’s a doc that tells the story of a tragically short life, and the film largely takes place inside World of Warcraft. You can watch it for yourself on Netflix on October 25th.
- It’s almost time to geek out.
Netflix’s now-annual Geeked Week kicks off on September 16th, and this new trailer gives an idea of what will be there. Which is to say, expect the hits, like Arcane, Avatar, and Squid Game.
Netflix’s next Geeked Week event kicks off in September
San Diego Comic-Con may have just wrapped up, but there’s still more entertainment news on the way — this time from Netflix. The streamer has confirmed that its now-annual Geeked Week event will take place the week of September 16th, wrapping up with some kind of in-person event in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 19th. There aren’t a lot of details right now, but Netflix did release a short teaser video.
Last year’s Geeked Week included the first trailer for Avatar: the Last Airbender, along with news about 3 Body Problem, Rebel Moon, and games like Hades. Looking at Netflix’s upcoming lineup, this year will likely feature Arcane season 2, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and the return of Squid Game, which just got a December premiere date for its second season. It’s likely the final season of Stranger Things will also appear in some form, along with more of the streamer’s move into gaming and possibly news about Avatar’s next season.
