Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says the revamped, AI-powered Alexa will arrive in the “near future.”

Jassy, from today’s Q3 2024 earnings call:

We continue to re-architect the brain of Alexa with a new set of foundation models that we’ll share with customers in the near future.

The supercharged Alexa was first announced in September 2023.

Amazon’s new Kindles are “significantly outperforming our expectations,” says CEO Andy Jassy.

There aren’t actual specifics on numbers in Amazon’s Q3 earnings (which makes sense — the new Kindles launched this quarter), but sounds like sales of the new Kindles are already good.

Jeff Bezos would like you to know that his non-endorsement of Kamala Harris was “a principled decision.”

It was just a little whoopsie it got announced so close to the election, that’s all! Also he didn’t know about the Blue Origin meeting with Trump and besides that was not his fault. “I sighed when I found out,” he says. I guess people are still canceling their subs!

Donald Trump meets with Blue Origin execs the same day WaPo declines to endorse a presidential candidate.

Nothing to see here, I’m sure. Jeff Bezos, owner of Blue Origin and The Post, just really strongly felt like there didn’t need to be a presidential endorsement this time around, no reason.

Amazon’s Like a Dragon works better as a mob drama than a Yakuza adaptation

Like a Dragon proves that a quality adaptation doesn’t always have to be a faithful one.

The new Kindle Scribe’s generative AI features are coming to older models, too.

The tools, which include things like summarizing your notes and turning your handwriting into a script font, will be available on the updated Kindle Scribe at launch (it ships on December 4th) and will hit the 2022 model “via a software update later this year,” Amazon says.
