Can we not do this whole smart water bottle thing again?

Gatorade is trying to make smart water bottles happen... again. Its new $70 Smart Gx Bottle and Sweat Patch (via Engadget) are supposed to tell when you’re sweaty and inform you it’s time to drink. Which, in theory, would sell more Gatorade. Of course it has an app and needs to be charged via a USB cable, too.

Putting aside the fact that I can usually tell when I’m sweaty and thirsty on my own without a $70 water bottle, this whole thing reminds me of the ill-fated Vessyl from 2014, a product formed of such hubris that it wasn’t even that funny when it failed miserably at its stated goal. We don’t need to do this again, folks.

Now if you’ll excuse me, my connected coffee mug says it’s time for a firmware update.

Matter is finally happening, y’all.

I can’t get my light bulbs working with my door lock, and if your reaction reading that is “well why not?!” as opposed to “why would you want that?” then check out Jen Tuohy’s article about Matter, which finally has an official spec, certification, and (gasp) a launch date.

Stadia lives... in the Nest Wifi Pro’s spec sheet.

As a tweet spotted by 9to5Google points out, it looks like Google forgot to remove a reference to Stadia, its now-canceled game streaming service, in the spec sheet for its just-announced Nest Wifi Pro.

Technically, though, this product is coming out before Stadia fully shuts down in January. After that, this feature will be much more useful for Netflix or Hulu.

Matter 1.0 is finally finalized — so what’s next?

The smart home standard is open for certification at last. We could see Matter devices in our homes as soon as this month.

Google overhauls Home app as it prepares for Matter

The redesigned Google Home app fixes the camera view, adds favorites, and lets you use sensors for automations. But there’s still limited support for older Nest cams.
