Streisand effect alert.

Meta is in the midst of attempting to block a memoir from an ex-employee detailing accusations of misconduct at the company. Behind the scenes, Meta has apparently also been badgering Washington Post book critic Ron Charles, sending repeated emails asking him about his plans to review Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams (you can read a preview of his newsletter below). He writes:

In my 27 years of reviewing and editing newspaper books sections, no company has ever done this with me.

Meta is testing its first AI training chip.

The custom chip is designed to train Meta’s artificial intelligence systems and reduce the company’s dependency on third-party suppliers like Nvidia, with Meta aiming to use its own in-house chips by 2026.

The company is already using a previous-gen chip to train its ranking and recommendation algorithms, but this would be its first used to train generative tools like Meta AI.

Apple and Meta could soon face fines under the EU’s DMA.

Sources tell Reuters that the European Commission is opting for “modest” fines due to “the short duration of the alleged violations... and the geopolitical climate.” Both Meta and Apple have been under scrutiny from the Commission since last year, while Google is rumored to face a fine as well.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber has a message for Zuck.

For those of you who don’t know Latin: Zuck’s tee is “aut Zuck aut nihil,” a play on “aut Caesar aut nihil,” which means “Zuck or nothing.” Graber’s tee is “mundus sine caesaribus,” or “a world without Caesars.” We love a woman who can shitpost IRL.

Zuck has some new shades.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a picture to WhatsApp that shows him wearing what he says are “the new limited edition Ray-Ban Meta x Coperni frames last night.” They’re coming tomorrow, he adds. Meta teased last week that “an exciting collaboration” is coming soon, and I suppose these are them.

It’s hard to tell if they’re translucent from this picture of Zuckerberg, but the earlier tease implied that they are, like Meta’s previous limited edition shades.

Update: According to a Meta blog that just went up, they’ll be available at 1AM PT / 4AM ET for $549. And yes, they’re translucent. Pictures added below.

Meta’s next Ray-Bans are apparently a collaboration with Coperni.

Interests for Threads profiles.

Meta is testing a new feature that lets you add specific topics to a dedicated “Interests” section on your Threads profile, as spotted by @faslu_35. The company confirmed the test to TechCrunch.
