FCC Chair Brendan Carr deletes net neutrality rules.

As part of an initiative to purge its own regulations, the FCC says it’s removed rules (that hadn’t taken effect) to reclassify broadband providers as common carriers. They were already struck down by a federal appeals court, but advocates can still appeal to the Supreme Court. Free Press General Counsel Matt Wood says the deletion, which came without advanced notice, is “a premature housekeeping step,” that helps “score points with broadband monopolies and their lobbyists.”

Congress has questions about MechaHitler.

Jewish Insider reports that a group of mainly Democratic lawmakers are asking xAI about some of the worst messages from Grok’s Nazi meltdown, demanding to know how it happened. As interesting as the answer might be — beyond the changes we already know about — ad-hoc investigation of legal (at least in the US) chatbot speech is probably not a road we want to go down without caution. But the sheer absurd awfulness of the quotes is a pretty striking failure for anybody working on Grok, too.

The Obamas are making an HBO sketch comedy series with Larry David.

The new half-hour limited series doesn’t have a name just yet, but HBO describes it as a celebration of American history that will star Larry David, a handful of other Curb Your Enthusiasm alums, and some “noteworthy guest stars.”

T-Mobile has officially axed its DEI policies.

In a letter to the FCC, T-Mobile executive Mark Nelson confirms that the company is “ending its DEI-related policies... not just in name, but in substance.” He adds that the carrier “will no longer have any individual
roles or teams focused on DEI.”

Earlier this year, T-Mobile updated mentions of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on its website to appease FCC Chair Brendan Carr, who said he would not approve mergers — like T-Mobile’s joint venture deal with Lumos — if companies have DEI-related policies.

A live entertainment CEO was indicted over an alleged bid rigging scheme.

The Justice Department released an unsealed indictment against Oak View Group CEO Timothy Leiweke, alleging he conspired with competitor Legends Hospitality to rig the bids for an arena project. Leiweke allegedly convinced Legends not to bid on the project in exchange for subcontracts he later reneged on. The DOJ says Oak View and Legends cooperated and entered non-prosecution agreements, including penalties of $15 million and $1.5 million, respectively.

Oak View Group said in a statement it “cooperated fully” and “is pleased to have resolved this matter with no charges filed against OVG and no admission of fault or wrongdoing.” Leiweke spokesperson Ellen Davis, however, said he “has done nothing wrong and will vigorously defend himself and his well-deserved reputation for fairness and integrity.”

Update: Added comment from Oak View and Leiweke.

Marco Rubio has an AI imposter.

Someone impersonating the Secretary of State sent AI text and voice messages to foreign ministers, a US governor, and a Congress member, according to a report from The Washington Post. The person contacted the officials on the encrypted messaging app Signal and over text.

A memo seen by WaPo said the imposter “likely aimed to manipulate targeted individuals... with the goal of gaining access to information or accounts.”
