You don’t have to be a genius to swap the band on the Pixel Watch — but it helps.

Google’s new smartwatch has a proprietary strap mount that looks great, but can be a little tricky to navigate when you want to switch out bands. So we thought we’d offer some advice on the easiest way to deal with it.

Surprise! Google updates Pebble App.

Early Kickstarter darling and smartwatch pioneer Pebble was purchased by Fitbit which ended support back in 2018. Google recently bought Fitbit, and two days ago it updated the official Pebble App to provide compatibility with the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The app is no longer hosted on the Play Store but the APK is signed using the official Pebble keys for an easy update. Good on ya Goog.

If you’re getting a cool new smartwatch, don’t forget to wipe the old one.

As with laptops, phones, and other tech, you need to clean your watch throughly so that all traces of your personal info is gone before you give it away, trade it away, or recycle it. It’s not hard — here’s how.

Here’s what a Pixel Watch without bezels looks like.

Courtesy of Google’s blog post announcing its new Messages features today, we’ve gotten a look at what a Pixel Watch could be if it didn’t have that giant bezel on it.

Sadly, Google’s since removed the image, but it’s clear that someone there wishes the Pixel Watch had a bigger screen instead of its racetrack bezel.

iFixit cracks open Google’s new watch.

Not the way that we did during our review, but if you want to see everything that makes the Pixel Watch go, the folks at iFixit can show you. Ultimately, it’s a very first-gen product, inside and out, but has some interesting elements, like a replaceable back cover.

If your smartwatch needs a case, that’s a sign of a failed design.

Google’s Pixel Watch has a striking design with a domed glass top. At the same time, it’s a strikingly-fragile design — one of our review units developed a crack along the screen without getting dropped or getting smacked into anything.

Unsurprisingly, there are already cases you can buy to put on the Pixel Watch to attempt to protect it. (There’s also an entire industry of similar Apple Watch cases, which I’ll never understand.) But if you need to put a case on top of your new, sleek smartwatch, perhaps it’s not a great design for a wearable device.
