At least one app is preparing to enable HDMI input to Apple’s Vision Pro.

Developer Finn Voorhees tested the Castaway: Spatial HDMI Monitor beta by playing Super Mario Bros. Wonder within visionOS using a USB capture card hooked up to an iPad. However, the developers of Halide/Orion have said the APIs necessary to connect their app to Vision Pro aren’t available yet.

Voorhees writes, “Going back and forth with app store review” in hopes of having it in the App Store in time for the Vision Pro launch February 2nd.

Honor Magic V2 review: fabulous foldable running so-so software

6

Verge Score

It’s thin and light enough to feel like a regular smartphone when folded. That’s impressive. I just wish Honor’s software were as svelte.

Shazam makes song identification easier for headphone wearers.

Version 17.3 of the Shazam iOS app can now identify what track is playing while wearing wired or Bluetooth headphones — regardless if the song is being played aloud nearby, or directly on the device via apps like TikTok and YouTube. In-app song identification was already available, but only if the user wasn’t wearing headphones.

Salesforce is laying off another 700.

It’s been a terrible month so far for anyone in tech, gaming, or media, with Slack’s owner now joining the carnage to reportedly cut one percent of its workforce. It’s not as bad as the 10 percent (about 8,000 workers) Salesforce laid off last year, and the company still has 1,000 open positions it’s trying to fill, according to the WSJ, as it rebalances the ranks.

Analyst tips 8-inch LCD for Nintendo Switch 2.

Supply chain analysis from Omdia’s Hiroshi Hayase suggests Nintendo’s next console, widely expected to launch later this year, will have a bigger screen than both the original Switch (6.2-inches) and the OLED model (7-inches), Bloomberg reports. That lines up with VGC’s previous reporting about the LCD display. Developers reportedly saw demos of the new Switch last year, and Activision was briefed on it as early as 2022.

NASA’s Mars Helicopter has made its final flight.

The Ingenuity helicopter mission achieved powered flight on another world, brought Zigbee and Linux to Mars, and survived close calls, lasting 33 times longer than originally planned.

But on Thursday, NASA officials said that after a loss of communication and rough landing last week its rotor blades are too damaged to fly again. The Perseverance rover that brought it to Mars is too far away to get a picture, but this picture shows the shadow of a broken blade on the Mars terrain.
