Vince McMahon accused of sex trafficking days after WWE lands $5 billion Netflix deal.

WWE’s week was off to a great start. There was a blockbuster 10-year, $5 billion deal to stream Monday Night Raw on Netflix beginning next January, and its Endeavor-owned parent company, TKO, added Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to its board of directors.

So much for that.

The Wall Street Journal today published an in-depth report on WWE co-founder (and current TKO executive chairman) Vince McMahon, who is being accused of sex trafficking by a former employee. The Journal has led the way in covering previous allegations against McMahon, which prompted WWE to conduct an investigation. This latest report goes into many deeply disturbing details.

With WWE’s major content deals now secured, how much tolerance will Endeavor have for McMahon’s alleged behavior?

The arsonist who burned beloved anime house Kyoto Animation, killing 36, has been sentenced to death.

It was a polarizing outcome even within the courtroom, according to The Japan Times and live coverage from the Asahi Shimbun.

Here’s a very little something we wrote in 2017 about what made KyoAni special, and The Hollywood Reporter’s devastating but uplifting 2019 feature on the tragedy is still worth a read now.

YouTube is “investing heavily” in its ability to stop AI celebrity scam ads.

That comes after 404 Media reported on a ring of them, leading to more than a thousand being wiped off the platform.

The advertising scams:

used artificial intelligence to make celebrities like Taylor Swift, Steve Harvey, and Joe Rogan pitch Medicare scams. In total, the videos had nearly 200 million views, with both users and celebrities regularly complaining about them.

BuzzFeed might sell Tasty and First We Feast.

Tasty was the definition of viral success in the “pivot to video” Facebook era. BuzzFeed planning to offload it speaks to just how much the social landscape (and the media landscape) have changed.

The possible sale of First We Feast might mean Hot Ones — another big social and video success — could be leaving the network, too.

Microsoft will name a new Blizzard president next week.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra is leaving the company. Ybarra’s departure comes on the same day Microsoft announced 1,900 job cuts that impact Xbox, Zenimax, and Activision Blizzard workers. The surprise departure comes just two months after Ybarra told Bloomberg “someone will drag me out of Blizzard. That’s how long I will be here.” You can read the full memo from Microsoft’s game content and studios president, Matt Booty, right here.

“In addition to the events today, Mike Ybarra and I have been discussing his future and some of his personal passions for some time. As many of you know, Mike previously spent more than 20 years at Microsoft. Now that he has seen the acquisition through as Blizzard’s president, he has decided to leave the company.” Matt Booty - President, Microsoft Gaming content and studios

In Amazon’s Road House remake, cooler heads will prevail, but also slap fight.

Rather than Patrick Swayze, it’s Jake Gyllenhaal starring as a stoic cooler in Amazon’s upcoming Road House remake from director Doug Liman. And in the movie’s newest trailer Gyllenhaal appears to be having the time of his life slapping the hell out of his co-stars right up until Conor McGregor shows up.

The new Road House hits Amazon Prime on March 21st.

Fubo applies AI-generated “Instant Headlines” to live news channels in its TV guide.

FuboTV users on Android TV or FireTV will see “select” 24 news channels in their guide shown with text in the thumbnails that use an unspecified AI to write a live-updated summary.

Unmoderated AI headlines created on the fly? Fortunately, there aren’t any examples of how that could possibly be a problem. Fubo’s increasingly pricey streaming replacement for cable TV has always had an eye on interactivity, so maybe this will go over better than its gambling features did.
