FX is leaving Kindred in the past.

Octavia Butler’s Kindred will always be one of her most powerful works, but FX’s haphazard adaptation of the novel has been canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As Deadline notes, it’s rare for FX to sunset its originals after just one season. But at a time when FX parent company Disney is trying to trim costs, this kind of sudden cancellation doesn’t come as a surprise.

HBO’s The Last of Us is pushing all the right buttons by telling new stories

The Last of Us’ third episode illustrates why breaking away from the source material can be exactly what a video game adaptation needs to do the original story justice.

The merging of Showtime and Paramount Plus means more disappearing TV.

Right now when you subscribe to Paramount Plus you have the option to tack on Showtime for a relatively small fee, but the partnership is about to get a lot more intimate as The Hollywood Reporter says the two services are getting combined and rebranded.

Unfortunately, this means layoffs and cancellations too. Deadline claims Let the Right One In, Three Women, and American Gigolo may all be canceled and pulled from the combined streaming service.

Last of Us voice actor Annie Wersching has died of cancer aged 45.

As well as playing Tess in the first Last of Us game, Wersching was also known for her roles as Renee Walker in 24, and Borg Queen in Star Trek: Picard. Here’s a clip of my favorite scene of hers from The Last Of Us, but be warned it contains a pretty massive spoiler if you haven’t played the game.

The final trailer for the final season of Star Trek: Picard promises a ton of spaceship fights.

Nearly the entire cast of The Next Generation returns for the final season of Picard and it looks like every single one of them appears in the final trailer. Also appearing: so many fights in space with spaceships, Seven of Nine, and actor Ed Speleers, who is apparently playing a friend of Beverly Crusher’s. The final season starts airing February 16 on Paramount Plus.

Slice your way through the weekend.

The big release this week is a gory one: the classic horror game Dead Space now has an excellent remake, that refines the original and pulls in the best bits from later entries in the series.

Ouch.

Here’s what Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe had to say about Netflix’s live-action adaption in an interview with Forbes (spoiler alert: he isn’t a fan):

For the new Netflix live-action adaptation, they sent me a video to review and check. It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there and so only saw that opening scene. It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop.

Jimmy Kimmel interviewed his 2003 self last night.

On the 20th anniversary of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the talk show host interviewed himself (or him with a 2003 deepfake on his face). Watch for a lot of poking fun at how much technology and culture have changed in the past two decades.
