It can be really interesting to hear creators talk about how much money streaming studios like Netflix pour into their projects. But Scott Pilgrim Takes Off executive producer BenDavid Grabinski’s recent assertion to Empire magazine that the animated series would cost more than a “live-action” version of James Cameron’s Avatar raises more questions than it answers.
Netflix has a new teaser out for its game show version of Squid Game, which looks uncomfortably close to the actual dystopian series. (Minus, critically, all the death.)
The production quality looks just a bit nicer than MrBeast’s immensely popular knockoff. It’s out on November 22nd.
Despite its strong action choreography and solid conceit, Peacock’s new John Wick prequel series shoots itself right in the foot with one inexplicable casting choice.
Netflix’s hit TV show has been adapted into a high-end VR experience called Squid Game Virtuals that you’ll be able to try at Sandbox VR locations. I think the show was intense enough, so I’ll probably pass on the VR version, but if you want to check it out, it’ll be there to tide you over ahead of season two.
The iconic Phil Collins song has been reworked with “football centric verses” from Snoop; the all-important drums are being played by legendary touring drummer Cindy Blackman Santana. Incredible quotes from the USA Today story about the project as well:
— “Collins gave his blessing to the project once he had assurances it would not replace the “MNF” theme song – “the four notes,” as those on the creative content team call it.”
— “Snoop was responsible for seven different rap sections that take about 17 seconds total.”
— “The anthem will play before every ESPN game aside from the Week 4 London game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons (on ESPN+) because kickoff is at 9:30 a.m. ET.”
I cannot wait to hear the 17 seconds of football raps that are too hot for the AM.

I need it for a very very important reason like buying the entire Cowboy Bebop soundtrack on vinyl from Amazon. It’s a limited edition, 11 record box set collection and includes just about everything Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts produced for the foundational anime.
The set is deep, including tracks from the easy to overlook albums like Vitaminless and Music for Freelance. In order to continue living as a human being I need this, so if you’ve got some cash to spare, send it my way.

In yet another sign that the workers behind some of Hollywood’s biggest movies are ready to fight to be paid what they’re owed, Marvel Studios’ VFX artists have unanimously voted in favor of forming a union under the IATSE.
The teaser isn’t big on plot, but it does feature one of the main cast members in some intense old age makeup and plenty of gorgeous Martian vistas that feel straight out of Total Recall. The show, which tells the story of space exploration in a world where the USSR landed on the Moon before the US, will return to Apple TV Plus on November 10th.
Here’s the plot according to Apple:
Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since Season 3, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars. But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working towards.
