Angela Lansbury, who may have helped usher in the modern age of VR, passed away today.

She was 96, and yes, despite being one of the best actresses of our time with a career spanning more decades than most of us will be alive, she also may have had a hand in inspiring modern VR.

In a 1993 episode of Murder, She Wrote, her character Jessica Fletcher investigated a murder at the VR gaming company.

It was seen by millions, and many claim it was among the inspirations for Palmer Luckey’s first VR headset. I couldn’t find any evidence to support that, but it’s not unreasonable to think Lansbury’s foray into a virtual world inspired others.

Forget the Super Mario trailer, let’s talk about this Santa in Die Hard trailer.

David Harbour, of Stranger Things fame is playing Santa in a new movie that feels ripped from a SNL digital short. John Leguizamo is also there. I have no idea how this can be an entire movie, but boy am I excited to try and understand.

Wattpad, the home of your favorite bandom fics, is rolling out new safety tools.

The site is kind of like the very monetized cousin of AO3, and with that monetization (and popularity) comes the need to protect its young audience. A Forbes investigation recently found that sexual predators appeared to be targeting Wattpad’s youngest users. Now Wattpad has announced a series of tools and policies to protect those users, while still trying to allow adult-oriented content to stick around.

The redesigned Siri remote from Apple was almost even better.

Last year Apple launched a totally redesigned Siri remote to replace the super thin one I adored, but everyone on the planet seemed to hate. We can agree the new remote is a major upgrade, but you know what would have made it even better? A little finger rest on the back. When Apple filed with the FCC the remote had a finger rest, but when it shipped the little groove was long gone.

How impressive was that robot demo?

A lot less impressive than most of us might have wanted. Earlier this week, James Vincent spoke to roboticists who warned that a robot simply walking across stage and waving would not be a terrific feat. Then Tesla’s robot…walked across stage and waved.

After DART smashed into Dimorphos, I can’t stop thinking about the best “blow up an asteroid” story.

LucasArts and Steven Spielberg came up with The Dig, a game about an astronaut, scientist, and journalist blowing up an asteroid and finding a spaceship inside, and they did it years before Bruce Willis, or NASA. You can still buy and play it on Steam!

I regret to inform you that phones are not good for cloud gaming.

Logitech announced the G Cloud Gaming Handheld earlier today. The new device comes with apps for some of the biggest cloud gaming services pre-installed, and you may be wondering what the point of it is when we all have very powerful phones with great screens. Don’t worry, I answered this question months ago when I wrote about just how bad phones are for serious cloud gaming! I cannot wait until we can run this thing through its paces and see if it gives us the cloud gaming hardware we need.
