The new Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 laptop is now available in the US.

As we saw at CES last month, Asus’ G16 and G14 latops are sleeker and thinner for 2024, featuring a new aluminum build, OLED screens, larger trackpads, and Intel Core Ultra 9 Meteor Lake chips to go with Nvidia 40-series GPUs.

The G16 price goes from $1,999.99 to $3,299.99 and it’s available directly from Asus or Best Buy. We haven’t reviewed this one yet, but hopefully, that new look hasn’t ruined this iteration of one of our most recommended gaming laptops.

Foursquare’s founder is building a new app that broadcasts location-reliant info into your AirPods.

BeeBot will push brief, contextual audio snippets to wireless headphone users on the move. For example, if a user walks past a concert venue, it might list upcoming shows.

BeeBot, still in early development, is the brainchild of Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, who came onto Alex Kantrowitz’s Big Technology Podcast to discuss the app.

Now you can sign into your PlayStation account without a password.

Passkey support is now available for Sony PlayStation accounts. Users can activate the feature in the security section of their Account Management settings on a PS5, PS4, computer, or mobile device.

PlayStation isn’t the first console to embrace the post-password future. Nintendo added support for passkeys last fall, enabling users to access their accounts with authentication methods such as iOS Face ID or the Android fingerprint sensor.

Update, Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, 5:02PM ET: Updated to include new tweet from the Ask PlayStation Twitter account.

The Gray Lady is working on a generative AI tool for advertisers.

The New York Times ad team is testing an internal generative AI chatbot that will recommend the best placement for ad campaigns and target niche audiences, reports Axios.

For example, a car company looking to position itself as family-friendly might use the tool to align some of its messages with articles about technology and others to pet owners across the Times’ site and app.

Axios says the paper is “broadly” investigating AI use cases, despite suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, and the Times recently announced it is building a team to explore the use of generative AI on the editorial side.

SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son wants $100 billion for a new AI chip venture.

It’s code-named Izanagi and is designed to combat Nvidia, sources are telling Bloomberg. OpenAI’s Sam Altman had been courting Softbank and other companies to potentially bankroll a chipmaking arm already — but the Izanagi project is reportedly not connected to that.

If successful, Izanagi may become the largest investment in AI since Microsoft put a rumored $10 billion wager on OpenAI.

The missing black cat with a $15 million award.

Or, the ALPHV / Blackcat ransomware gang that’s accused of extorting millions from hospitals, schools, and even Reddit.

The State Department is offering a $10 million reward to anyone with information on the key leaders of the multinational group that would lead to their location or arrest. The agency is offering another $5 million for intel on “any individual conspiring to participate in or attempting to participate” in the notorious ransomware gang’s activities.
