No car company has taken up Tesla’s offer to license FSD.

In an earnings call, Elon Musk said it might be because they “still don’t believe it’s real.” He claimed that Tesla is still in talks with other automakers to license the advanced driver-assist feature, that despite the misleading name still requires driver’s to pay attention to the road while using.

Over 400,000 cars in North America have the feature, Musk said. Tesla just started rolling out v12, which uses neural nets “end-to-end” to control the vehicle’s functions.

Why do EVs hate the cold?

The good people at Vox’s Today Explained had me on recently to talk about why all those Teslas were breaking down in Chicago during the recent cold snap. EVs and cold weather! Not a good mix!

But as a dad who’s suffered years of emotional abuse from listening to the Frozen soundtrack too many times, the opening song was a bit triggering.

Rivian adds R1S SUV to its leasing program.

Customers in a handful of states have been able to lease the R1T electric truck since last November. Now the R1S SUV is getting in on the action. Prices depend on the trim and motor configuration. For example, a quad-motor R1S with the large battery pack can be had for $1,157 a month, excluding taxes and fees.

And while customers who buy the R1S can only get half of the $7,500 EV tax credit in the US, those who lease the SUV get access to the whole credit.
