Anthony Levandowski has gone from driverless car pioneer to “apostate.”

Levandowski — driverless car pioneer, church founder, trade secrets thief, Trump pardonee — features prominently in this Business Week cover story about how autonomous vehicles are failing to live up to their early hype. There’s a lot of color about driverless cars getting stuck in San Francisco, but the piece is anchored on Levandowski’s heel turn. Of course you should take his disparagement with a grain of salt: he’s currently working on a project that involves outfitting construction equipment with self-driving sensors.

Ford’s EV sales soared in September.

The Blue Oval company tripled the number of electric vehicles sold last month, led by robust demand for the F-150 Lightning truck. Ford’s share of the overall EV market is also up 3.1 percentage points over last year with 7.0 percent share — which still places it as a distant second to Tesla. BlueCruise, the company’s hands-free driver assist system for highways, is being used by 83,000 customers, who have used it for over 21 million miles.

The Chevy Bolt EV is having a very good year.

GM says it sold 14,709 Bolt EVs and Bolt EUVs over the last three months, which is a record for the unassuming little hatchback. And with customer demand soaring, the automaker is boosting production by nearly 60 percent, from 44,000 to 70,000 for the calendar year. With an average sale price of over $65,000, the cheapest EV on the market is selling like hotcakes. What a shock, right?
