The latest batch of games hitting Panic’s little yellow handheld includes some time-tested time-wasters that should be an ideal compliment to the device’s more esoteric offerings. There’s chess, solitaire, and a game described as “Sudoku meets Minesweeper.” Not that there aren’t still oddballs, like the surprisingly violent-looking arcade racer Taxi Trouble. We’re exactly a month out from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which means fans only have one question on their minds: what is going to happen to Aerith? This quote from producer Yoshinori Kitase doesn’t clear things up much, but it does make me even more curious about how they’re approaching this iconic moment:
Aerith’s fate is one of the most important themes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s story. I really want people to play the game and feel it directly, so I will not say too much here, but when comparing this scene to how it was presented in the original, I am confident that the audience will feel a great breadth of emotion from the extra level of detail in how the characters are portrayed.
We still don’t know when season 2 of Severance will hit Apple TV Plus, but at least we know production on the workplace horror story is underway. In the meantime, please check on your innie.
MLS is back in February, which means the second season of the 10-year-long soccer streaming experiment on Apple TV is about to begin. This season is notable in particular because the league’s crown jewel — Lionel Messi — will be around from the beginning, which is a big deal for Apple’s ambitions in the space.
And it turns out the 2024 version of MLS Season Pass launches today, actually, with Messi’s Inter Miami playing pre-season matches in Saudi Arabia.
In open beta, at least. Ubisoft’s oft-delayed pirate simulator is launching on February 16th, but ahead of that date you can check out a beta version from the 7th through the 11th. It’s available on PC, Xbox, and PS5, and you can check out all of the details right here.
It’s not clear how many people have downloaded the mobile GTA trilogy via Netflix, but in today’s earnings report it says the release is “...our most successful launch to date in terms of installs and engagement, with some consumers clearly signing up simply to play these games.”
That said, gaming remains a relatively minor part of Netflix’s business. Despite claiming that “engagement tripled last year,” the company said that games are still “small, and certainly not yet material relative to our film and series business.”
Before there was Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth there was Advent Children, a CG movie that served as a sequel to the original game from 1997. It’s a bit of a, let’s say, acquired taste, but if you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, Square Enix is bringing it to select US theaters on February 21st and 22nd.
