You might think you’re buttoned up when it comes to digital security and keeping your data safe. But as The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern and Nicole Nguyen show in a new report, iPhone thieves have figured out how to wreak havoc on peoples lives within minutes of stealing a device — just by sneakily observing their passcode.
My question: why is knowing an iPhone’s passcode enough to change someone’s Apple ID password? Countless services require your current password before it can be changed. But all it takes on an iPhone is knowing six digits.
Time to start using an alphanumeric passcode if you aren’t already.
