    Mark Zuckerberg, NIMBY.

With news that Meta has spent millions on an ad campaign to persuade people that having data centers in their backyard isn’t all that bad, Mark’s next move is an obvious one.

    ScubaDiver:

Put one next to your house Mark! Be the change you want to see in the world.

Google is “exploring” letting publishers opt out of AI in Search.

At least in the UK, where the walkback comes after the country’s CMA opened a consultation on forcing Google to do just that, having given the company “strategic market status” last year. Ron Eden, Google’s principal for product management, says:

“We’re now exploring updates to our controls to let sites specifically opt out of Search generative AI features. Our goal is to protect the helpfulness of Search for people who want information quickly, while also giving websites the right tools to manage their content.”

Lego’s latest Smart Play sets are BYOB.

That’s Bring Your Own Brick, of course. The five new Star Wars-themed sets launching on March 1st support the company’s new interactive features, with smart minifigures and tags, but only if you already own the crucial Smart Brick from one of the three existing Smart Play sets.

<em>This $49.99 Attack on Endor set supports AT-ST walking sounds and laser cannons.</em>
<em>The $69.99 Yoda’s Hut and Jedi Training set includes smart minifigs of both Luke and Yoda.</em>
<em>The $99.99 Millennium Falcon has four smart minifigs and four smart tags, but no smart brick.</em>
<em>At $39.99, Luke’s Landspeeder is the cheapest of the new sets.</em>
<em>The $79.99 Cantina set includes a smart minifig of Greedo, though you’ll have to bring your own Han.</em>

    A word of many meanings.

Reddit’s big dick subreddit has turned on ICE, who know a thing or two about being dicks themselves.

    What’s the big Whoop?

Tennis’s biggest stars keep being asked to take their Whoop trackers off at the Australian Open. The wearable is permitted by the sport’s governing bodies, but banned by the tournament, prompting frustration from player (and, um, paid Whoop ambassador) Aryna Sabalenka:

“All the tournaments I play, we wear Whoop. It’s just for tracking my health. I don’t understand why Grand Slams are not allowing us to wear it.”

Dungeons & Dragons & Artificial Intelligences.

Parents since the ‘80s Satanic Panic have worried that kids playing Dungeons & Dragons wouldn’t be able to tell reality from fantasy, but maybe it was AI they should have been worried about all along.

    cowboyxboombap:

I’m getting a kick out of this, honestly. I use Gemini as a D&D DM copilot and for some of the roleplaying moments with the players and now it thinks that’s all my actual life. I had to give it instructions that all of that stuff was made up. It’s hilarious

    iPads Pro and attorneys general.

Some plurals are just more fun than others to say — this commenter gets it.

    The Schpongler:

Must feel so good to use the plural “attorneys general” at a scale like this. It’s like “senators elect”, “notaries public”, or “Bigs Mac”.
