Crypto crime in 2025 is topping last year’s totals already.

More than $2.17 billion has been stolen from crypto services this year, more than the entirety of 2024, according to a report from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. Then again, most of that came from a single hack — a $1.46 billion heist of Bybit linked to North Korean hackers, the largest crypto theft in history — and without that, the numbers would look a little rosier.

Salt Typhoon hacked the National Guard too.

A Department of Homeland Security memo, obtained by Property of the People through a freedom of information request, reveals the group — suspected to have links to China — “extensively compromised a U.S. state’s Army National Guard network” for nine months last year.

Salt Typhoon gained notoriety in 2024 for hacking telecom networks, targeting the Trump and Harris campaigns, though earlier this month a top FBI official said the group is “largely contained.”

Samsung chairman acquitted all over again.

Today Korea’s Supreme Court cleared Lee Jae-yong of stock manipulation charges related to a merger which helped him take control of the company founded by his grandfather. He was acquitted by a lower court last February, which prosecutors appealed, but the country’s top court sided with the Samsung man.

In 2017 he was found guilty of bribery and embezzlement, but later released from prison on appeal and pardoned in 2022. He’s currently Samsung’s executive chairman.

Threads is going for the boomers.

Meta appears to be testing the option to sign up for its X rival with a Facebook account, as it slowly separates Threads from its Instagram origins, with a support page but no official announcement yet. It opens up a new audience for the app, which is closing in on X’s daily active user numbers.

    Look out.

Next year’s Supergirl movie promises to be a little more rough and ready than Superman, so this first official look at the film suits it well.

Milly Alcock plays the Kryptonian cousin, following a cameo in Superman, in a story adapting the comics’ Woman of Tomorrow arc. It’s DC’s next movie, followed by Clayface, a body horror take on the Batman villain.

The first Qi2.2 charger stand is $66.99.

Yesterday Ugreen dropped the first Qi2.2 power bank as the first certifications rolled out, and now Aukey has followed with a 2-in-1 charging stand dubbed the MagFusion 2X. You can preorder it today.

Both charging pads are Qi2.2, meaning each can deliver 25W speeds. Aukey claims an iPhone 16 Pro Max charges 25 minutes faster than on Qi2 — which suggests Apple’s latest phones are already compatible.

The OnePlus 13 gets an AI upgrade today.

A new update is rolling out Plus Mind, which uses AI to create calendar events or record important details from screenshots.

It’s coming to the 13 and 13R, and rolls out worldwide “over the coming weeks.” Neither of those phones has the customizable Plus Key that activates the AI on phones like the new Nord 5, so you’ll have to use a three-finger swipe to trigger it instead.
