YouTube Premium Lite comes to Canada and Britain.

The cheaper subscription, which cuts ads on “most” videos, but not music, is expanding to Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil too, after launching in the US in March. It’s rolling out gradually, so check the Premium Lite site to see if you’re eligible to sign up — I’m still not, but my colleague Tom apparently is.

Premium Lite costs CAD$7.99 / £7.99 per month, compared to CAD$12.99 / £12.99 for YouTube Premium.

Bloomberg Terminal outage brings finance to a halt.

The $28,000-per-year service delivers live pricing, data, and analytics on stocks and bonds, and the Financial Times describes it as “the gold standard for the financial services industry.” A near two-hour outage this morning left traders unsure what to do with themselves, delaying an auction of UK government debt and a sale of Swedish bonds.

SteelSeries adds a splash of color to its entry-level mice.

The updated Rival 3 Gen 2 comes in black and white finishes, available either wired or wireless, and more exciting purple and blue versions exclusive to the wireless model. The big tech upgrade is click latency — now just 1.35ms wired, and 1.9ms wireless — but there’s a $5 price bump to go with it.

To get the full range of colors you’ll have to opt for the $59.99 wireless model.
Battery life is up to 200 hours on 2.4GHz, or 450 over Bluetooth.
Other than the new colors, the Rival 3 design hasn’t changed much.
The $34.99 wired version comes in black or white, with an RGB underglow.

There’ll be more Nothing in July.

That’s when the flagship Phone 3 launches, and CEO Carl Pei has previously said that it’s actually getting a proper US release. The company also used Google’s Android Show to reveal that it’s targeting a price around £800 (about $1,070) for the phone, which would make it Nothing’s most expensive yet.

Today’s tease follows last week’s reveal that the brand is working on its first pair of over-ear headphones.

Washington gets the right to repair.

The state’s governor is the sixth to sign a bill requiring the availability of repair parts for most consumer electronics, including all phones, laptops, and tablets sold since July 1st, 2021. Like Oregon and Colorado’s laws, HB 1483 explicitly bans “parts pairing,” when manufacturers use software to prevent replacement parts working or display warning pop-ups.

A second law introduces even stricter requirements for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, requiring manufacturers to provide firmware for replacement parts.

Honda takes the EV out.

The company is walking back some of its long-term electrification plans, cutting 3 trillion yen (about $20.8 billion) from its investment in electric cars over the next six years. Instead, it’s shifting focus to hybrids, though still plans to be selling only EVs by 2040.

It’s not just them: Toyota is in the midst of a similar reassessment, while last year Volvo gave up on its plan to be fully electric by 2030.
