The FCC wants to know what automakers are doing to protect domestic violence survivors.

Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel wrote letters to nine major automakers, including GM, Toyota, Ford, and Tesla, to ask what kind of data they collect about their drivers and how they protect their privacy. Rosenworcel sent similar letters to Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, too.

The letters came in response to a report from The New York Times last month, which detailed how a domestic violence survivor was harassed by her abuser using her car’s connected services. “We must do everything we can to help survivors stay safe,” Rosenworcel said. “We need to work with auto and wireless industry leaders to find solutions.”

The FAA is investigating Boeing after a door plug blew out during a flight.

The agency ordered a temporary grounding of all Boeing 737 Max 9 airplanes after the incident occurred on an Alaska Airlines flight over the weekend, but now it’s opening a formal investigation.

A group of senators are also pushing Boeing to cooperate with an investigation from the NTSB, which will focus on missing or loose bolts meant to hold the door plug in place — something United Airlines also found on its Boeing 737 Max 9 planes.

Meetup got acquired by Bending Spoons.

Meetup, the app that lets you find and join local activities and events, just got acquired by Bending Spoons — yes, the same company that bought Evernote (and started severely limiting its free plan). There’s no word on whether there will be any major changes to Meetup following the acquisition, but Bending Spoons CEO Luca Ferrari says the company will share “future plans” soon.

Volkswagen isn’t the only carmaker that’s adding ChatGPT to vehicles.

Skoda, the Czech car brand that’s also owned by Volkswagen, is building the AI chatbot into its voice assistant in newer vehicles. Drivers will be able to use the ChatGPT-enabled assistant to control the infotainment system, navigation, and air-conditioning, as well as use it to “answer general knowledge questions,” according to Skoda.

Even X is giving up on NFTs.

The Elon Musk-owned platform quietly removed the option for Premium subscribers to use NFTs as their profile pictures, as spotted earlier by TechCrunch. X also scrubbed all mention of NFT profile pictures from its support page.

This comes a little less than one year after Meta ended tests that let users share NFTs on Instagram and Facebook.
