Peacock added 4 million paid subscribers this quarter.

That’s an 80 percent increase over the same time last year, bringing Peacock’s total subscriber base to 28 million in the US. Comcast started making Xfinity subscribers pay for Peacock in June, which likely has something to do with the increase in paid members.

Peacock revenue jumped $830 million as well, reflecting the service’s subscriber growth and its recent price hike that brought the ad-supported plan to $5.99 and the ad-free plan to $11.99.

Disclosure: Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, is also an investor in Vox Media, The Verge’s parent company.

Paramount is consolidating its streaming teams.

In an email obtained by Deadline, Paramount Streaming CEO Tom Ryan tells staffers that the company is merging product and tech teams for its Paramount Plus and Pluto TV services.

Vibol Hou, the CTO of streaming, will oversee both teams, while Rob Gelick, the former chief product officer, is leaving the company.

Google Fiber is shooting for 20-gig speeds with Wi-Fi 7.

Google says it wants to offer the service to “select areas” by the end of this year. The 20GBps speeds and the not-yet-certified Wi-Fi 7 would be a pretty big upgrade for the service, which currently offers up to 8GBps and Wi-Fi 6 routers.

Netflix says it doesn’t decrease ad loads for returning subscribers.

Earlier today, we posted about AdExchanger’s report that raised questions about whether Netflix is showing fewer commercials to those who cancel their subscription and then re-subscribe to Netflix’s ad-supported tier.

But Netflix spokesperson Nikki Merkouris tells The Verge this isn’t the case, saying “We do not alter the ad load,” and that it has always averaged about four minutes per hour.
