Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba is splitting up.

The company has announced that it will split into six separate units for cloud, Chinese ecommerce, global ecommerce, and others — each with their own CEOs and the potential for IPOs.

This comes after years of antitrust scrutiny from the Chinese government, and also just one day after co-founder Jack Ma returned to mainland China for the first time in a year.

Apple quietly acquired a startup that specializes in AI video compression.

While Apple may not be making any monumental jumps into AI just yet, the company acquired a startup last month that leverages machine learning technology to compress and decompress videos, as first spotted by TechCrunch.

The startup, called WaveOne, announced the sale to Apple on LinkedIn, with its former vice president of sales stating that Apple saw the company’s potential and “took the opportunity to add it to their technology portfolio.”
