Only Up! goes the way of Flappy Bird.

The “climb random objects into space” game was hugely popular on Twitch earlier this year, but its developer has pulled the title from Steam due to stress, as reported by Kotaku.

“I’m a solo developer and this game is my first experience in Gamedev, a game I did for creativity, to test myself, and where I made a lot of mistakes,” the developer wrote in a September 6th update. “The game has kept me under a lot of stress all these months. Now I want to put the game behind me.”

    That’s a big launch.

The game has “already surpassed 6 million players,” according to the Starfield account on X. It’s unclear exactly what that number means, but likely some combination of people who bought it and people who tried it on Game Pass.

If you haven’t checked Starfield out yet, you should — though I should warn you that the first few hours are pretty boring. (I also recommend rushing through the main quest.)

Google is opening a new visitor center at its HQ.

We remain focused on being a helpful neighbor and continuing to invest in our long-term presence in Mountain View. That’s why, for the first time, we curated an intentional visitor experience with public amenities for everyone, including neighbors, visitors and Googlers. Attend a local community group or non-profit event at the Huddle, a venue designed for creating connections. Discover and support local businesses at the Pop-Up Shop. Tap into your curiosity in The Plaza, which features outdoor art, events and programming. Connect with friends at the Cafe @ Mountain View, our first-ever public cafe. And explore our hardware products and services in person at the first brick and mortar Google Store on the West Coast.

The “Google Visitor Experience” opens on October 12th, about a week after its Pixel 8 launch event.

Molly Holzschlag, an advocate for the open web, has died.

Holzschlag, who reported on music for the Tucson Weekly in the 1990s, founded Open Web Camp, a Silicon Valley event that ran from 2009-2013, and was a leader of the Web Standards Project in the years before that. That group successfully pushed browser developers, including Microsoft, Opera and Netscape, to adopt web standards. More than once, she challenged Bill Gates face-to-face to fix problems with Internet Explorer.

She was 60 years old. Some users on Hacker News had some very kind words about her and her contributions to the web.
