    Kevin Mitnick has died.

The convicted hacker and author of Ghost in the Wire, which Verge readers recommended as one of the best tech books of all time, died on July 16th of pancreatic cancer. I really recommend taking a few minutes to read his obituary to get a brief glimpse into his life. RIP.

Samsung is apparently working on a “Galaxy Ring.”

That’s according to a new report from The Elec. Seems like Samsung is considering its own take on the Oura Ring.

The report also says Samsung is prepping an “extended reality” headset for next year. Perhaps that will be the first product from Google, Qualcomm, and Samsung’s “declarative announcement” of a partnership on a mixed-reality platform from earlier this year.

Want to see photos of some PlayStation VR 2 prototypes?

Check ‘em out on the PlayStation blog. My favorite is easily this transparent PSVR 2. Sony, please release this for real!

There’s already a subreddit to plan r/Place protest art.

The more than 300 subscribers on r/PlaceAPI are batting around ideas for protest art for the 2023 r/Place canvas that’s launching on Thursday.

In Reddit terms, that’s a comparatively tiny community, but they’re not the only ones thinking about how to use r/Place to share their discontent: a lot of people on Reddit’s announcement post are discussing ideas, too.

Unity is opening up its beta program for making apps and games that work on Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

Developers who want to try the beta can sign up at www.unity.com/spatial. Apple has already released the visionOS SDK and it could start shipping the dev kits soon.

Google Chat spaces can now have up to 50,000 members.

Spaces (which seem basically like Slack channels), could previously only hold up to 8,000 people, according to Google’s blog post about the upgrade. I’d love to see how chaotic chat is in a room with 50,000 members.
