Apple’s iOS 16.5.1 really does have important security fixes.
According to The Washington Post, the update released Wednesday fixes flaws that “had been used to hack thousands of devices in Russia.” Make sure you update!

iOS 17’s second developer beta doesn’t add much.
9to5Mac has a list of the changes so far, and they’re pretty minor. Honestly, the biggest change for me is that my phone isn’t weirdly warm.

That’s one way to protest.
In response to CEO Steve Huffman’s characterization that Reddit moderators are like the “landed gentry” and him saying that Reddit make changes to let users vote out mods, r/PoliticalHumor has embraced “pure democracy” in the subreddit and is letting all users be mods.
Reddit has paid lip service to their moderator-users for years, perpetually insisting that communication and mod tools would quickly improve after a stumble like this one. We’re cutting all of that out and bringing power directly to the people so that we can show the brilliance of Spez’s idea today, rather than waiting years for reddit to develop it.

Apple’s visionOS SDK is out now.
Developers can now start making apps for the Apple Vision Pro. Next month, Apple is going to open “developer labs” in a handful of cities so developers can go hands-on with the headset. Developers will be able to apply for developer kits, too, though I have to imagine those will be under a mountain of NDAs.

The Reddark Twitch stream is shutting down.
According to a message at the top of the stream:
Reddark247 will go offline at midnight UTC. You can still watch reddark at reddark.untone.uk. Reddark247 may return.
The stream has been a handy live tracker to follow which subreddits are private or restricted as part of the ongoing protests toward the company. The main Reddark website will still be up, though.
(Midnight UTC is 8PM ET, by the way.)

Vampire Survivors is coming to Nintendo Switch in August — with local co-op!
The chaotic monster-slaying game is headed to Nintendo Switch very soon, and you’ll be able to play with up to three other friends in local multiplayer. I’ve played Vampire Survivors almost entirely on my Steam Deck, so I think it will be an absolute blast on Switch. The game is coming to Switch on August 17th — and couch co-op is coming to PC, Xbox, and mobile that same day, too.
