Huawei’s in-house HarmonyOS leaves Android apps behind.

HarmonyOS Next can only run apps specifically developed for it, the company announced today as it released a developer preview ahead of its Q4 release, South China Morning Post reports. It’s a big shift for HarmonyOS, which has maintained some level of compatibility with Android software since its launch in 2019 even as US sanctions prevented Huawei from using Google’s full-fat Android. Huawei also appears to have overcome sanctions preventing access to high-end chips.

Instagram to teens: “Go to bed.”

When a teenager spends more than 10 minutes watching Instagram Reels or sending DMs after 10PM, the app will now prompt them to close Instagram for the night. Meta’s launching the features amidst heightened concern over the impact of social media on its younger users; Mark Zuckerberg and other tech CEOs are due to appear before the US Senate later this month to “testify about their failure to protect children online.”

WhatsApp’s latest updates give Channels some love.

Meta has announced a handful of new features that are rolling out to Channels, WhatsApp’s one-to-many broadcast feature. Channels will now support voice messages and polls, as well as adding up to 15 additional admins. There’s also an interface to share a Channel update as a personal status. As always, WABetaInfo spotted these features weeks ago, but now they’re officially on their way.

Microsoft “Copilot Pro” hints appear in leaked code.

Android Authority has spotted some interesting text in early Canary versions of Android’s Edge browser. “Get the latest AI models, priority access for quick answers, and high-quality image creation with Copilot Pro,” the code reads. It’s unclear when the “Copilot Pro” service might launch, but hopefully it won’t come with the same 300 conversations per day cap, or limit of 30 replies per chat.
