    Amazon uses AI to scan for fake reviews.

    Ahead of Black Friday and a wave of holiday shopping, Amazon says it uses “advanced AI” tools to spot inauthentic product reviews on the platform.

    Amazon has long had a problem with fake reviews, sometimes involving networks of thousands of people buying them via Facebook or WeChat. In 2022, Amazon sued the admins of over 10,000 Facebook groups in an effort to crack down on fraudulent reviews.

    The Lofi kids have gone missing again.

    The last time Lofi Girl disappeared from her usual perch at her desk, it was to launch a new music stream and a new character, Lofi Boy. The synthwave radio has been playing ever since.

    Now both characters are gone from their streams as of this morning. Did they go on a date? Did they finally finish studying/relaxing/chilling/gaming?

    It’s been a bad day for the media industry.

    So far, G/O Media shut down Jezebel, slashed even more jobs at The Onion, and made cuts at Gizmodo. Vice staff are also reporting layoffs, and some Popsugar staff lost their jobs as well. (Disclosure: Vox Media, The Verge’s parent company, owns Popsugar.)

    G/O Media angered staff and readers this summer when the company began experimenting with generative AI tools. G/O said AI wouldn’t replace the work done by human employees.
