Vision Pro launch prediction: 60k to 80k units.

Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo closely follows Apple’s production plans and is saying that for the February 2nd launch day, “Apple will produce 60,000 to 80,000 units of Vision Pro,” with around 500k shipping in 2024.

We had our first Vision Pro experiences last year at WWDC, and in just a couple of weeks, everyone can decide if they’re ready to spend $3,499 for an early entry to the world of spatial computing.

I don’t get the hype about the Rabbit R1.

10,000-plus people are already sold on the big AI hit of CES 2024, but I’m not there yet. My Android homescreen layout can tell you that I’m left-handed, which is just one of the issues raised by comments like this one.

The size probably isn’t bad (David Pierce has seen the R1, and says it’s not that much thicker than an iPhone), but the keynote didn’t convince me that this voice assistant is worth my time, or that allowing a “Large Action Model” access to my accounts is a good idea in terms of privacy or security.

NASCAR is ready for its Drive to Survive moment.

While Netflix is starting to do live sports, this isn’t that (at least not yet, anyway). While the Drive to Survive series that boosted F1’s popularity in the US won’t be back until February, NASCAR and Netflix have released a trailer for Full Speed, a very similar behind-the-scenes docuseries following stock car drivers.

It promises access to 16 drivers and teams through last year’s playoffs across five 45-minute episodes, including Ryan Blaney, known gamer Ross Chastain, known gamer moment haver Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, and others.

X is still promising peer to peer payments in 2024.

X CEO and former award-winning DEI executive Linda Yaccarino is promoting the company’s 2024 plans for AI and Grok, as well as the “video first” experience that included so many unauthorized Super Mario Bros. Movie streams.

Upcoming features mentioned include a “see dissimilar posts” option, as well as payments. The latter is something Elon mentioned when he took over the company, and, as Liz Lopatto explains, has been a pursuit of his for much longer than that.

It’s kind of weird that Nintendo is making a Legend of Zelda movie with Sony, right?

While kicking off Sony’s CES 2024 press conference, CEO Kenichiro Yoshida mentioned some of the Sony Pictures highlights on the way, including a particularly interesting partnership with Nintendo. All we got was that “This live action film will deliver an amazing tale of adventure and discovery,” whenever it’s eventually released.

    Apply (in)directly to the forehead.

I don’t know if this $249.95 Withings BeamO “multiscope” will ever gain a place in the culture that matches that of HeadOn, but combining a thermometer, stethoscope, pulse oximeter, and EKG all-in-one is ambitious, to say the least.

A woman pictured holding the next to herforehead, with illustrated veins overlaid on her skin to show how it can read temperature, pulse, EKY, and other data in a single contactless scanning device.

So, what can you do with a Vision Pro?

In addition to running iPhone and iPad apps or mirroring your Mac, Apple says the Vision Pro can stream movies or TV shows from Disney Plus and Max on an HDR screen that feels 100 feet wide, while the Apple TV app will have “more than 150 3D titles” plus there are Apple Immersive Video experiences with “180-degree, three-dimensional 8K recordings captured with Spatial Audio.”

Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja will be some of the spatial games rolling out when the Vision Pro launches February 2nd.
