Eight hours of the Severance theme song is a fitting end to a long weekend.

I finally caught up on the Apple TV drama over the weekend and can confirm Severance is as good as everyone said it was.

While season two is still caught up in a slightly different kind of labor conflict than the one depicted on the show, Apple has released this extended mix to make your cubicle or home office a little more Lumon-like after the Labor Day break.

Just as the founder would have intended.

Sometimes, you just have to take action.

Like when LG releases a 27-inch suitcase TV. We got a better look at the StanByMe Go at IFA this week, but one commenter just couldn’t wait that long, and I’m so glad he didn’t.

Screenshot of Verge comment by brianb722: My preorder I made the day The Verge posted the first story on the StanbyME was delivered almost two weeks ago. Used it last weekend out by the pool with the kids and next to the living room TV to watch two college football games at once. It is indeed heavy. My 7-year-old spent maybe an hour playing the games that came pre-installed and they were pretty shallow. Kind of like what you’d get on the tablet restaurants were briefly putting onto every table.

An NBA ref abruptly retires, and the league’s burner account inquiry ends.

In the middle of the NBA playoffs, Eric Lewis was suspended for allegedly responding to criticism of himself and other refs on a “burner” account, despite a policy barring referees from discussing officiating without approval. The 19-year vet had just refereed game one of the Western Conference finals, and even LeBron James took note.

Now, as The Athletic and NBA.com report, everything has come to a close with this statement by the league:

NBA referee Eric Lewis has informed the league office that he is retiring, effective immediately. In light of his decision, the NBA’s investigation into social media activity has been closed.

    Disk image.

A touchscreen and a floppy disk drive are hardly natural partners, but DIY electronics company Adafruit found an interesting way to show off this 4-inch 720x720 display that’s “coming soon.”

Listen to the sounds of the Vision Pro.

9to5Mac posted this clip with even more system sounds included in the visionOS beta 3 update released today.

Other Vision Pro software changes now match WWDC marketing images, suggesting previous builds were well out of date. The report also notes accessibility tweaks that adjust controls for people who can’t make a gesture with one of their hands, can’t use both eyes to navigate, and more.

And finally, there’s a notification included saying “Mouse input is currently not supported on visionOS.” How would Douglas Engelbart take that news?

Apple delivers eighth developer beta of iOS 17 after announcing the iPhone 15 launch event.

Our invites to the launch event for Apple’s next iPhone had barely arrived before it pushed developers another revision of its upcoming iOS and iPadOS 17 software update to test. (There are also updates rolling out for test versions of the new watchOS, macOS, tvOS, and even visionOS software.)

Until we actually see what’s shipping this fall, you can check out our early impressions or see how to install a beta version and test the update yourself.

Disney workers are the second visual effects group to try to unionize.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) union announced that over 80 percent of the 18 in-house Visual Effects (VFX) crewmembers at Walt Disney Pictures expressed a desire to unionize. Their organizing follows a push at Marvel that started earlier this month and is in the midst of ongoing strikes by the actors’ and writers’ guilds.

    IATSE VFX Organizer Mark Patch:

Today, courageous Visual Effects workers at Walt Disney Pictures overcame the fear and silence that have kept our community from having a voice on the job for decades. With an overwhelming supermajority of these crews demanding an end to ‘the way VFX has always been,’ this is a clear sign that our campaign is not about one studio or corporation. It’s about VFX workers across the industry using the tools at our disposal to uplift ourselves and forge a better path forward.
