Tesla’s Texas plant has built (at least) one Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck debuted in 2019 and was originally scheduled to launch in 2021. But after some delays, it looks on track with Elon’s schedule for limited production this summer, a delivery event in Q3, and mass production in 2024.

Tesla tweeted out this picture saying “First Cybertruck built at Giga Texas! 🤠,” And while we can’t see details like a rounder front end, nothing can hide that huge windshield wiper.

And yes, Tesla is still accepting preorders for the low-poly pickup if you put $100 down.

A real-time reaction to the actors’ strike.

Microsoft’s dark mode for Paint in Windows 11 is getting closer to a full release.

Similar to the Windows 11 emoji update that’s now in testing, Microsoft originally promised this update to the Paint app a couple of years ago. After rolling it out to more limited test groups in June, Microsoft just announced that dark mode for Paint in Windows 11 is now rolling out to Windows Insiders in the beta channel.

Ford’s next BlueCruise driver assist update is rolling out to Mustang Mach-Es this summer.

Ford advanced driver assist technologies exec Sammy Omari said the new BlueCruise 1.3 software focuses on extending the time drivers operate in hands-free mode without disengaging compared to the 1.2 update.

During our internal testing across a variety of roads in the U.S., BlueCruise 1.3 stayed engaged in hands-free mode for an average of 3X longer compared to BlueCruise 1.2. We saw an even larger performance improvement from BlueCruise 1.0 to BlueCruise 1.3 with an average of 5X longer engagement in hands-free mode.

Omari also told TechCrunch that F-150 Lightning owners should have it by the end of the year.

JWST celebrates its first year of science with another incredible image and a new head of science.

We’ve been following the story of NASA’s next-gen James Webb Space Telescope for years, but now it’s been in operation for an entire year.

You can watch Loren Grush talk through those first images, check out the first Earth-sized exoplanet it discovered, or check out our breakdown of major highlights from its first year.

Also, Space.com notes NASA recently announced Jane Rigby is the JWST’s new senior project scientist. Named the 2022 LGBTQ+ Scientist of the Year by Out to Innovate, Rigby was one of three commissioning scientists for JWST and replaces John Mather, who had been in the role since 1995.

An active star-forming region. Red dual opposing jets coming from young stars fill the darker top half of the image, while a glowing pale-yellow, cave-like structure is bottom center, tilted toward two o’clock, with a bright star at its center. The dust of the cave structure becomes wispy toward eight o’clock, trailing off and allowing stars and distant galaxies to show through. Above the arched top of the dust cave three groupings of stars with diffraction spikes are arranged.
The subject is the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, the closest star-forming region to Earth.

Mastodon’s flagship server is down due to maintenance.

“The original server operated by the Mastodon gGmbH non-profit,” mastodon.social is unreachable at the moment, but not because of DNS problems (for once) or Instagram Threads.

It’s actually undergoing maintenance that’s only supposed to cause twenty minutes or so of downtime.

Update: And right on schedule, it’s back up!

The Elon Musk private jet tracker was on Threads, but not anymore.

Jack Sweeney made his @ElonMusksJet account one of the first 70 million or so on Threads and spoke to Insider about it yesterday. Last fall Musk claimed he was providing “basically assassination coordinates” and banned his Twitter account until it added a 24-hour delay.

However, sometime recently, the account was suspended on both Instagram (where it had been active for months) and Threads. We’ve contacted Meta to find out more details.

The account remains active on Facebook, BlueSky, Mastodon, Telegram, Nostr, and TruthSocial.

Correction: The account is from Jack Sweeney, not Jack Smith.

NBA 2K24 is the first one that includes crossplay.

When NBA 2K24 arrives this fall, it will allow PS5 and Xbox Series console gamers to play against each other, a first for the series (unfortunately, other systems, like earlier generation consoles and the Switch, are still stuck within their silos).

Polygon has more details, like which covers feature Kobe Bryant and a GameStop-only physical copy WNBA Edition with Sabrina Ionescu on the cover. Finally, the $149.99 25th anniversary Edition will again include 12 months of access to NBA League Pass streaming.

Google joins Threads, which now has over 70 million activated profiles.

This morning @Google posted its first message to Threads, and a quick look at its Instagram profile reveals the account is customer number 67,461,606. Mark Zuckerberg might chime in again once Threads passes 100 million registered accounts, which shouldn’t take long at the current pace — about 24 hours ago, the number was 30 million.

Update (12:01PM ET): Zuckerberg confirmed Threads has registered 70 million sign-ups.

Threads has now activated over 50 million profiles.

After just one day of operation, Instagram’s new social app is already halfway to 100 million accounts. Alex Heath just noted 48 million in this post and a Command Line update sent out today, but the Threads number keeps climbing. (Check the Instagram account of anyone who’s registered, and it will tell you if they were 1st, 50 millionth, or somewhere in between.)

Where do you think Zuckerberg & Co. will be when we wake up tomorrow?
