    Engage Game mode.

One of the new features in macOS Sonoma (which should come in handy once Death Stranding launches on the platform) is the ability to enable “Game mode” to prioritize gaming on the Apple Silicon CPU and GPU, along with lowered audio latency on AirPods and doubled BT sampling rate on Xbox and PS controllers.

Apple shouts out Apollo for new macOS Sonoma widget feature.

Last week, the creator of the third-party Reddit app Apollo spoke out about how Reddit’s push to monetize API access could cost him as much as $20 million per year and crush access for third-party developers. Today during Apple’s WWDC presentation, the company conspicuously showed the app on slides, and presenters even mentioned it by name.

A security exploit for a file transfer tool is behind data breaches at the BBC, British Airways, and more.

Attackers using an unpatched exploit for Progress Software’s MOVEit Transfer product breached a number of large companies. TechCrunch lists BBC, BA, and Nova Scotia’s government as known victims already.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence linked these to an affiliate of the Clop ransomware group, which TechCrunch notes has previously attacked exploits in other file transfer tools like GoAnywhere, and typically demands payment to not post the stolen records online.

Getting your money out of Apple’s new savings account could be tricky.

The Wall Street Journal reports on some customers who experienced delays stretching weeks as they attempted to transfer money from the Goldman Sachs savings account attached to their Apple Card, in amounts from $1,700 to as much as $100,000. (I guess they were really enticed by that 4.15 percent APY.)

After contacting Apple, Goldman Sachs VP Nick Carcaterra responded with the same statement given to the WSJ:

The customer response to the new Savings account for Apple Card users has been excellent and beyond our expectations.

While the vast majority of customers see no delays in transferring their funds, in a limited number of cases, a user may experience a delayed transfer due to processes in place designed to help protect their accounts.

While we would not comment on specific customer interactions, we take our obligation to protect our customers deposits very seriously and work to create a balance between a seamless customer experience and that protection.

    Triangulating.

Moscow-based security firm Kaspersky said it uncovered a new cyberattack delivered via iMessage. Dubbed Operation Triangulation, it apparently infected “dozens” of employees’ iPhones and was detected due to some anomalous traffic on the company’s network.

But, as TechCrunch reports, Russia’s FSB claimed the attack is the work of US intelligence, using vulnerabilities “provided by the manufacturer,” without providing any evidence to back that up. In a statement to the outlet, Apple spokesperson Scott Radcliffe said, “We have never worked with any government to insert a backdoor into any Apple product and never will.”

If you have an Nvidia GPU and more than one monitor, you might want to skip the latest driver update.

Many people (including yours truly) are having problems with Chromium browsers and other apps flickering after installing the 535.98 driver released May 30th.

The problem seems linked to multiple monitor setups and having G-Sync enabled. A post to Nvidia’s forums says they’ve identified a fix, but until it’s rolled out, you can try an earlier driver or disable hardware acceleration in any apps that are having problems.

Ten years later, here’s the second-generation Leap gesture controller.

The original $80 Leap gesture controller debuted so long ago that we compared it to the Kinect. However, unlike Microsoft’s Xbox accessory, Leap is still kicking.

Now known as Ultraleap after a 2019 merger, it’s showing off the Leap Motion Control 2 (via RoadtoVR) and retiring the old device. The new $139 unit will begin shipping this summer, and new Gemini software for it is coming to macOS — and with its positioning as a VR accessory, you can probably guess why that’s suddenly a priority.

Key improvements over the original Leap Motion Controller include higher resolution cameras, an increased field of view, and 25% lower power consumption, all in a 30% smaller package for optimum placement and convenience.

It is the most flexible camera ever developed by Ultraleap and is compatible across platforms and complimentary hardware including VR/MR/AR headsets, PCs, and holographic displays.
