Now the US State Department has a “strategic framework for space diplomacy.”

The Washington Post points out this 25-page document (PDF) released Tuesday by the State Department. The Post reports this signals further involvement of the diplomatic corps in a realm that until now, has been largely managed by NASA and the Pentagon.

This first Strategic Framework for Space Diplomacy outlines how State Department diplomacy will advance continued U.S. space leadership and will expand international cooperation on mutually beneficial space activities, while promoting responsible behavior from all space actors, strengthening the understanding of, and support for, U.S. national space policies and programs, and promoting international use of U.S. space capabilities, systems, and services.

Today’s news kinda captured how the whole AI thing is going.

Still, understanding the limitations of generative AI tools — despite the hype — is as important as anything else right now.

Theranos co-founder Elizabeth Holmes has reported to prison.

Elizabeth Holmes will begin serving her 11-year federal prison sentence for defrauding investors in her blood testing company. She is still appealing her conviction.

John Carreyrou, whose Wall Street Journal article seemed to initiate her undoing, tweeted the video of her walking in with the caption “Bad Blood, the final final chapter.”

Asus has a proprietary new GPU power connector.

As the Computex 2023 show gets rolling, WCCF Tech highlights this “Megalodon” Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and motherboard combo. It ditches the troublesome power cables found on today’s massive GPUs for a new slot that sits next to the standard PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 connection and delivers up to 600W of power, similar to the MPX Module in Apple’s Mac Pro.

Asus plans to release this tech globally later this year, and said devices with it will cost slightly more than the regular SKUs.

Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotuku Studio sets up an event for June 15th.

With E3 shelved, the summer calendar is quickly filling up with gaming showcases big and small, and fans of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series (the naming depends on where you are) should keep an eye out for this one (via IGN).

RGG announced Yakuza 8 at last year’s event as a turn-based sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and we’d expect to see more of the game this time around.

TiVo’s next stop is the new BMW 5 Series.

The once-meaningful TiVo brand (now owned by Xperi) wasn’t saved by launching its Android TV dongle, but it isn’t gone yet.

Dave Zatz points out that despite a delay in its plans for TiVo OS smart TVs, the company announced last week it scored a placement with BMW for in-car access to streaming and linear video content.

BMW’s implementation of the Powered by TiVo™ platform will include a variety of country-specific content, offering news, movies and access to media libraries. The video media platform is expected to roll out over-the-air in initial launch countries by the end of 2023 for customers of the all-new BMW 5 series and further models.

The new 5 Series sedans are first up, including the new all-electric version with almost 300 miles of range.

Now we know what happens if your lawyer uses ChatGPT.

The New York Times highlights a story of a lawyer who is in trouble after filing a motion using research he did with ChatGPT to find relevant cases.

The problem? ChatGPT, as AI chatbots often do, just made a bunch of stuff up, and the opposing lawyers told the Times they “had an inkling a chatbot might have been involved.” This is a screenshot of the lawyer asking ChatGPT if its made-up cases are real.

Steven Schwartz: Is varghese a real case? ChatGPT: Yes, Varghese v. China Southern Airlines Co Ltd, 925 F.3d 1339(11th Cir. 2019) is a real case. Schwartz: what is your source.

    The real Q project.

As commenter Chefgon points out, there was a Nexus Q before the Project Q PlayStation handheld Sony revealed this week.

Last year Chris Welch revisited that whole experience for us and explains how the $299 Nexus Q player stumbled in 2012 just before Google scored a hit with the Chromecast in 2013.

Is it time to start taking graphene seriously?

I have a simple rule for news vetting — if it says “graphene,” you can probably ignore it because it never shows up as a real product. New Logitech G Pro X 2 gaming headphones with graphene drivers may force me to revisit that, even if they’re not the absolute first ones on the market and are arriving ten years after researchers explained how these could work.

This interview and this video below lay out why the carbon supermaterial has so much promise — and the production hurdles holding it back. But maybe that’s finally changing.
