The FBI confirms a “malicious cyber incident” on its network.

The last time we heard about hackers breaching FBI computers was in 2021, when they sent thousands of fake emails.

There aren’t as many details available about this incident that the FBI says has been contained, but CNN reports, based on two anonymous sources, “FBI officials believe the incident involved an FBI computer system used in investigations of images of child sexual exploitation”

    PC-grade VR without the PC.

Watch Adi, Tom, and Sean try out Sony’s second-generation virtual reality headset if you’re trying to decide whether the $549 peripheral is worth it.

The launch software lineup is a little light and your PC won’t properly recognize it, but the PSVR 2 at least has an easy setup and one short but impressive title in the form of Horizon Call of the Mountain.

The PSVR2 is here, and it doesn’t want to work with your PC.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is trying to explain why Bing AI responses are the way they are. Just another very normal day.

Court reveals the two people who helped Sam Bankman-Fried post bail.

The former FTX crypto tycoon is living with his parents in California instead of sitting in jail, thanks to a $250 million bail secured by his parent’s home as well as two people who had been kept anonymous.

Today, after news organizations argued for the information to be released, the court revealed Stanford research scientist Andreas Paepcke put up $200,000 and former Stanford Law School dean Larry Kramer put up $500,000. SBF’s parents teach law at Stanford.

    Install those OS updates ASAP.

Beyond unplugging Internet Explorer and improving crash detection, updates for both Microsoft and Apple operating systems are fixing security flaws that they report have already been exploited by attackers.

A WebKit exploit on iOS applies no matter which browser you’re using, so you’ll want to update right away.

BleepingComputer has a rundown of the security fixes, which includes one for the Microsoft Store on Windows, so make sure you have updates turned on for that app specifically — it won’t get patched via Windows Update alone.

In Elon news: he’s apparently running Twitter the same way I would if I spent $44 billion on it and plans to keep running it directly for most of this year.

In non-Elon news: Are you ready for the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s rating? We gave it a 9. Also, expect earnings updates today from Roblox and Roku, but don’t miss Liz’s breakdown of what happens in tech when the money stops being cheap.

Sometimes AI chatbot responses are clear, detailed, and wrong.

From last week’s Vergecast: there’s one small problem with this Bing AI response about The Verge’s history with Elon Musk and Elon Musk impersonators.

Getting approved for a loan from Apple could depend on how much gear you’ve bought.

The details are apparently coming out as Apple tests its “buy now, pay later” service with employees. The service was supposed to launch last year.

    From Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman:

The Apple Pay Later service — announced last year but still in the testing phase — will evaluate borrowers based on their spending history and even which of the company’s devices they own. The program, which lets shoppers make purchases and then pay over installments, also will look at whether customers have applied for an Apple Card credit card and the other cards they have linked to their Apple Pay accounts.
