Meta Chief AI Scientist Yann Lecun is leaving.

Lecun’s widely-rumored departure is official just weeks after significant layoffs affected Meta’s legacy Fundamental AI Research unit (FAIR) that he created. Lecun — the “odd man out” at Meta for believing LLMs are a “dead end” — called creating FAIR “my proudest non-technical accomplishment,” and says he will create a startup to continue his Advanced Machine Intelligence research, with Meta as a partner.

Meanwhile, Meta will presumably lean into its $14 billion bet on Scale AI in pursuit of AGI “superintelligence.”

Things are not right in the land of Pebble.

Rebble, which has kept the Pebble platform going, is at odds with Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky, just as Pebble is making its comeback.

Rebble is accusing Migicovsky’s company, Core Devices, of stealing its work, while Migicovsky claims Rebble is trying to build a walled garden around data scraped from the original Pebble Appstore.

    xAI announces Grok 4.1.

This latest model update arrives without 4.0’s accompanying Nazi chatbot meltdown, albeit reportedly still without some content filtering.

Its developers claim 4.1 “sets a new standard” compared to other bots, based on prerelease testing, as well as reduced hallucinations and greater speed that users preferred over the previous version 64 percent of the time.

Rockstar claims fired employees were leaking company information.

The GTA VI studio now claims that firing dozens of employees last week for “gross misconduct” was because they were “found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum.”

The president of the IWGB said to Bloomberg in response that Rockstar is “prioritizing union-busting by targeting the very people who make the game.” It’s planning a protest on Thursday morning.

Tom Brady’s cloned dog is marketing for one of his companies.

Whether you should, or would, clone a pet is not the point of People’s article about Tom Brady’s cloned dog Junie.

It’s to tie in with news about a company he invested in, Colossal Biosciences (which claims it has de-extincted dire wolves), buying Viagen, “the leader in animal cloning.”

No Monday Night Football, no Election Night ABC News for YouTube TV.

The standoff between Disney and YouTube started just before midnight on Thursday evening, and unlike the 36-hour tiff in 2021, there’s no sign of an end yet. Disney said it asked Google to turn the networks on for 24 hours for election (and probably football) coverage, but YouTube declined.

There are plenty of other options for customers - election news information is very widely available across other broadcast stations and news networks on YouTube TV, as well as on the main YouTube service, for free. In fact, on the last two U.S. election days, the vast majority of tuned in YouTube TV subscribers chose not to watch ABC.
