Everyone wants to make a cheaper SM7b.

This is Elgato’s new $99.99 Dynamic XLR mic, the Wave DX, introduced today along with new CPU-powered Wave Link audio effects for EQ and noise removal. One note — adding the Wave XLR interface (also pictured) is an extra $160.

It follows the just-launched $350 Blue Sona XLR, as competition to sell alternatives to Shure’s ubiquitous SM7b increases every day.

That competition, of course, includes Verge senior audio producer Andrew Marino’s recommended pick, Shure’s own MV7.

After leaks and a few more leaks, the Sonos Sub Mini is finally here, and Chris Welch has our review. We’re also keeping an eye out for updates from Florida following Hurricane Ian and will share what we find out — even if that’s just the truth about viral videos of sharks in streets.

Otherwise, we’re preparing for Tesla’s AI day event on Friday night to look for Elon’s dancing, singing, and dexterous robot.

That NFT thing... it’s not looking good is it?

Call them NFTs, try to hide them by changing the name to digital collectibles, or do whatever you want to do — this doesn’t look like the sales activity chart of something that people are actually interested in as a product.

Apple’s iPhone 14 production targets are staying close to the number for the 13.

Bloomberg says that despite Apple internally anticipating a surge in interest ahead of the iPhone 14 launch, it’s now telling suppliers that production plans for 2022 will continue to mirror last year’s numbers.

However, at least one source said the mix has shifted toward more expensive models. Analyst Dan Ives suggests Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro could account for 85 percent of production, compared to 65 percent for the iPhone 13 Pro.

    Fast Company, quick shutdown.

Over the last couple of days, the attackers were bragging about their access in forum posts, saying they’ve been editing articles that were already picked up by bots.

The lesson here seems to be: lock down your WordPress instances, and don’t use insecure shared passwords on administrator accounts.

Ken Dorsey’s blow up on Sunday was just one incident in a string of violent outbursts between NFL coaches, players, and those conveniently tossable Microsoft Surface tablets.

Everything looks better in slow motion.

Apple’s Dynamic Island alert system isn’t sitting still around your iPhone 14’s front-facing camera array. We’ve been enjoying its contextual animations — and even an Android copycat — since it was unveiled, but take a look at it here, captured at 240fps, to see exactly how iOS applies animations that make it feel a bit more lively.

NASA’s spacecraft crashed, and everyone is very happy about it.

Otherwise, Mitchell Clark is kicking off the day with a deeper look at Dish Network’s definitely-real 5G wireless service , and Walmart’s metaverse vision in Roblox is not looking good at all.
