An original 1977 print of Star Wars was screened recently, and it looked “terrible.”

That’s according to The Telegraph film critic Robbie Collin, who also said, “It felt less like watching a blockbuster in the modern sense than the greatest game of dressing up in the desert anyone ever played.”

The Hollywood Reporter points out that George Lucas has been tweaking the flick going back to its rerelease in theaters in 1981, along with this YouTube report from Cinema Savvy detailing “so many little things” that are different. If you want a better blend of the updates without CG fluff and “Greedo shot first,” you may have to wait for Harmy to get back from his honeymoon.

Google explains Thursday’s massive Cloud outage.

For Cloudflare’s part, its report says the Google failure took out a central data store for one of its services.

From our initial analysis, the issue occurred due to an invalid automated quota update to our API management system which was distributed globally, causing external API requests to be rejected. To recover we bypassed the offending quota check, which allowed recovery in most regions within 2 hours. However, the quota policy database in us-central1 became overloaded, resulting in much longer recovery in that region.

Tesla asks its remaining fans to make 90 second ads.

You might recognize this TeslaVision campaign seeking fan-submitted ads as a callback to the Project Loveday contest from 2017 (that was the year the Model 3 started shipping, but the new Roadster and Semi did not).

Beyond the request for free advertising labor amid an ongoing brand crisis and political quagmire, Tesla’s 2025 request is also designed to try to flood social media, requiring posts on YouTube, X, and Instagram by July 17th to maybe win a Model Y and a trip to Gigafactory Texas.

Siri was mostly missing in Apple’s AI updates this week.

Even as presenters discussed opening up Apple Intelligence to third-party developers and new AI features for other apps, Siri was conspicuous in its absence. So what does that mean for the future of Apple’s AI efforts?
