    Sega canceled Football Manager 25.

Sega’s quarterly earnings revealed that after two delays, this year’s Football Manager isn’t coming: “Whilst many areas of the game have hit our targets, the overarching player experience and interface is not where we need it to be.”

This reminds me of EA missing NBA Live releases in the 2010s, but it’s still disappointing that last year’s game isn’t getting updated to fill in the gap as Sega and Sports Interactive shift focus to FM26.

Football Manager 25 Decided to cancel its development ✓ Aiming for a major evolution of the series by renewing the UI and graphics and adding new elements, but it was found that more time was needed than expected to ensure quality ✓ Cancel the release of this title and focus on development of next title by taking over development assets ✓ Recorded a loss associated with a write-down of inventory assets in Q3

“I think they’re playing a quantity game and assuming the system can’t react to all this illegality at once.”

Said a law professor quoted by The Washington Post in an article about government officials raising internal legal objections to the actions of Elon Musk’s DOGE team. These messages have surfaced from departments like USAID, the Treasury, GSA, OPM, and others:

“I swore an oath to the Constitution of the United States and the Commission serves the people of the United States,” an administrative judge at the agency wrote to EEOC acting chair Andrea R. Lucas, in a previously unreported message. “If you want to continue following the illegal and unethical orders of our president and the unelected leader of ‘doge’ that’s on you.”

Apex Legends 2 got announced before Titanfall 3?

While discussing Q3 2025 earnings results, EA CEO Andrew Wilson laid out the future of Apex Legends for investors six years after its surprise launch. With “tens of millions” of regular players, there’s a significant update planned once the new Battlefield launches (it’s due out before April 2026), but that’s not all:

Our expectation is that Apex will be also one of those franchises [that last 10, 20, 30 years], and that some time, on a longer term time horizon, there will be an even bigger more meaningful update to that experience, an Apex 2.0 if you will. This will not be the last incarnation of Apex.

M3gan 2.0 trailer teases the killer android’s return in June.

After a few delays, Universal and Blumhouse’s sequel to their $180 million grossing viral hit about a best-friend-AI-bot-gone-bad is scheduled to premiere on June 27th, 2025. Now the first teaser trailer has dropped on the night of the Grammy Awards with an assist from Chappell Roan’s song “Femininomenon.”

In M3gan 2.0 the robot will be resurrected to do battle with a military-grade spinoff based on her original tech, and presumably some new TikTok dances.

China responds to Trump’s tariffs threatening ‘corresponding countermeasures.’

Now that Donald Trump has issued tariffs on products from China, Canada, and Mexico, Canada responded with tariffs of its own, and China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement (via Google Translate) that it “will file a lawsuit with the WTO for the wrong practices of the United States and will take corresponding countermeasures to firmly safeguard its own rights and interests.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its own statement, saying (translated), “The United States should view and deal with its own fentanyl problem objectively and rationally, rather than threatening other countries with tariffs at will.”

Apple could upgrade its iCloud calendar with ‘Confetti.’

In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman writes that the PowerBeats Pro 2 earbuds are preparing to launch on February 11th, with heart-rate monitoring as previously rumored, and also about a new iCloud feature.

Apparently called Confetti internally, it’s an invite service for events like parties and meetings, which could be tied to a “broader” reworking of Apple’s calendar app. It certainly sounds easier than working out the issues with launching AR glasses.

    Microsoft’s ‘performance-based’ cuts have started.

Following up on an earlier report, Business Insider reports some Microsoft employees have been let go with letters citing “your job performance has not met minimum performance standards and expectations for your position,” and several reported receiving no severance.

Asked about the plan earlier this month, Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw said, “...When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action.”
